Selasee, originally from West Africa, began his musical journey at a young age and eventually relocated to Boulder, Colorado. He started a solo career in 2003 and eventually added players to his band, which resulted in the current act, Selasee & the Fafa Family.
In his early years in Colorado, Selasee also started working with Running Dreams Records, with Sean Cassidy acting as his manager starting in 2005.Sean Cassidy's involvement in Selasee's music career brought some important credibilty to his work, and Selasee recorded his debut album as a solo artist, entitled “Run.”
His title track “Run” won first place in the World Music genre of the International Song Writers Competition in 2005. “Run” and another track, “Makuma,” were featured in the 2006 FIFA Soccer and 2007 Cricket video games by EA Sports. In 2006, Selasee performed at a showcase during MIDEM 2006 in Nice, France and MUSEXPO 2006 in Los Angeles, California.
His current band blend West African and soul/pop influence , traditional and modern reggae beats, and strong instrumentals, to create their original sound. Comprised of seven players, the band is made up of Kit drum and bass, two guitars and two horns, plus vocals. Selasee’s music is a unique blend of Reggae, West African Highlife and American Pop music. Bright with color, his music threads together English and West African lyrics for a captivating sound.
Selasee has opened for reggae legends like Don Carlos, Barrington Levy and Steel Pulse, and also was selected to perform at the Inaugural Ball for President Obama on January 20, 2009.
Now, in 2013, the band perform regularly and will begin work on a new studio album this spring, followed by multiple performances and tour stops throughout the year.
